¡Demos lo mejor hasta el final! Let’s give our best until the last day! All right amigos we had a great time with our last celebration about el Cinco de Mayo.  Thank you to all my students’ parents who helped to make that Fiesta one of the best! Now it is time to focus our attention in the Final Exam and last project (Mi arbol Familiar).

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:  

  • PORTAFOLIO revision is May 7th and 8th.
  • TAREA: Last project will be a Family Tree due on Monday May 7th. Don’t forget the sentences or description!

For the last 2 weeks: Classwork and practice, also we will have make up opportunities before the gradebook is closed. Finally, we will enjoying our last movie of the year, it could be: Sweet 15 (Quincieañera- 1990)  or Under the same moon (La misma luna- 2007).

¡A celebrar nuestra última fiesta del año! Let’s celebrate our last cultural party of the year! Yes, 5 de Mayo is this Saturday! But do you really know what is Cinco de Mayo about? First, it should not be confused with Mexican Independence Day. That is September 16th. Cinco de Mayo is not a largely observed holiday in Mexico (with the exception of a few regions), but is much more popular in the United States. So, what is Cinco de Mayo? The short answer is that it commemorates the defeat of the French Army by Mexican soldiers at the battle of Puebla  (Mexico) in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is a uniquely Mexican-American holiday. It celebrates a change in the relationship between the United States and Mexico.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:  

  • UNIT 2 TEST will be this Wednesday (mayo 2). Use your study guide to prepare yourself for this TEST.
  • PICTIONARIO page 179: due this Monday April 30th.
  • PORTAFOLIO revision is May 7th and 8th.

¡Ya casi terminamos la semana de examenes! We are almost done with the CRCT week! I hope everyone keeps giving your best every single school day and get ready to finish this quarter with a good average grade. Deficiencies will go home on Tuesday. Be aware that we are going to have a make up week this week, don’t miss this great opportunity. For those students whose average is high, remember that you may help others or focus on a classwork independent assignment.

¡Un buen merecido descanso para todos! It is time to get a well deserved resting time! I really hope you are enjoying this week of Spring Break with your family and friends. It seems that this season has also brought a little bit of summer, because my family and me have been in the swimming pool already!

Parents please encourage your children to continue to check this blog, calendar and agenda for assignments, important reminders, quizes and test, etc. We are going to be pretty busy from now until the end of the year with a lot of fun and learning activities.

¡Muy buen trabajo! Great job to those students who turn Mi sala de clase (classroom) picture and Mi horario ideal (My ideal schedule) project in on time ;). ¡Bienvenidos al último periodo de este año!. I hope everyone is preparing for this last 4th Quarter to give your best to learn new material everyday. We have enjoyed the visit of a Colombian group of students who came to share and exchange culture at NAHS and SUTTON M.S. I want to give special thanks to my, 1st and 3rd period classes, parents, the Spanish Club members and Sra. Garzón for the welcome breakfast and the pportunity to bring real life culture to our classes. They will have nice memories and hopefully new friendships will remain.  ;)

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

¡La primavera esta floreciendo! . We have honored the Black History Month with our last project: Una Biografia de un afrolatino. It was due last Friday March 9th before the early relaease day, so make sure to turn it in by Monday if you haven’t done so. This project is the last grade on your Quarter 3 report card so do your best! 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:  

  • March 12 is the end of the grading period so report cards will be coming out on Friday. We will then begin the last quarter for Semester 2! 
  • Pictionario project  (vocabulary page 145) is due on Thursday March 15. Please make sure to apply the grammar content of the unit to your sentences (verb ESTAR for location and feelings).

¡Avancemos! :) Let’s get ready to move on to lección 2: En la escuela. In this lesson you will learn to say where things are located, say where you are going, talk about how you feel, etc. Sounds great, verdad ;). Feliz Marzo and that means that La Primavera is truly just around the corner!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:  

  • Bring color pencils to work on your pictionario project vocabulary page 145. It is due on Thursday March 8th.
  • Una Biografia de un Afrolatino project is due on Friday March 9th before you leave for the early release day.
  • March 12 is the end of the grading period so report cards will be coming out shortly. We will then begin the last quarter for Semester 2! 

For this coming week

UNIT 3 Essential Questions:

-How would you describe your school daily schedule?  How would you compare your school with one that of a student in a Spanish-speaking country? How would you indicate location and say how people feeel? How do we talk about where someone is going?

Objectives:   To talk about daily schedules, to say where things are located, to where you are going, to talk about how you feel, to learn the conjugation of ESTAR (to be) and IR (to go) verbs.

GEORGIA PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

MLI.CCC2 The students demonstrate an understanding of the significance of culture through comparisons between the culture(s) studied and the students’ own culture.

MLI.CCC3B Recognize basic sound distinctions and intonation patterns and their effects on communicating meaning.

MLI.INT2 The students interpret verbal and non-verbal cues to understand simple spoken and written messages in the target language.

Content: Activities, time, saying what you like to do, subject pronouns and infinitive verb forms:-ar-er-ir. The verb estar (to be) and ir (to go). Feelings using the verb ESTAR.

AGENDA:

Lunes: Ss update their agenda for the week. Teacher will clarify the homework for the week and Quiz Day content. Conclusions of Maricela’s movie w/s. Ss will copy the vocabulary list and grammar boxes of page 145. Presentacion de vocabulario.

Martes:   Presentacion Actividad de video unidad 2 leccion 2. Analysis and Comprenhesion. Cancion: ¿Cómo soy yo? (con letra) We will be working on the vocabulary for the pictionarios page 145

Miércoles: Quiz Day on writing about yourself and a friend in terms of: name, age, origin, likes/dislikes, school schedule, what you have and have to do, and what you do and how often you do it. We will be using your pictures to encourage your writing inspiration :).

Jueves: Presentacion de gramatica: The Verb ESTAR page 128. We will be working on the sentences for the pictionarios page 145. TPR activity using vocabulary about feelings.

Viernes:  Project Presentations: Una Biografia de un Afrolatino. Practice activities. ¡Feliz fin de semana!

TAREA (HOMEWORK):  Homework in Spanish is weekly and it is assigned every first day of the week and will be turn it in on Friday. Pictionario page 147 due on Thursday and Una Biografia de un afrolatino due on Friday.

NEXT WEEK QUIZ: Every Wednesday (Todos los Miércoles): Next week Ss will be quiz on knowledge of the vocabulary words page 145: classroom objects, say where things are located, feelings, places, other words and phrases.

¡Excelente trabajo! to all students who participated in the make up week. It was great to see many of you helping others. Also, we had started another cultural movie (Maricela-1988) that will allow us to discuss topics such as immigration, ideals, values, opportunities, prejudices, racial discrimination, language and peer pressure. Ss have received a worksheet to think about some questions in regards of the movie.

For this coming week: We will honor the Black History Month ;) with a project about afro-latinos.

How good are you at asking and telling the time in Spanish? How do you say what you have and have to do in Spanish?

Jueves: Hopefully we may go to the computer lab to start our research project in honor of Black History Month.
